Joy Noodle Cafe 樂心餐廳 in Markham is a straightforward spot if you’re after Hong Kong-style fast food and cha chaan teng classics without the fuss. The interior is simple and brightly lit, with ample seating that suits small groups, families, or solo diners looking to satisfy a craving for comforting, familiar flavors.

This place feels like a casual weekday retreat — good for lunch breaks or early dinners when you want a solid, no-nonsense meal. The menu brings a broad selection of Cantonese comfort dishes such as Hainanese chicken rice with fragrant oil rice, warm bowls of beef satay noodle soup, and baked pork chop on rice with tomato sauce. You won’t find anything overly fancy here, but portions tend to be generous and filling, which matches the reasonable price point well.

Drinks like the HK-style milk tea and iced lemon tea are staples that help complete the experience, providing that classic bitterness-sweetness balance you expect from local Hong Kong cafés. Though service is generally friendly, some diners have noticed occasional hiccups with timing or order accuracy during busier hours — so setting expectations accordingly can pay off.

Joy Noodle Cafe works best for those who appreciate straightforward, hearty meals reflecting Hong Kong’s cha chaan teng culture, without a wait for table turnover or elaborate plating. It’s less a spot for lingering and more a place to get your fix of nostalgic fast food-style dishes that pair well with friends or coworkers on casual outings. Visiting during off-peak daytime hours might offer a quieter experience, especially if you want to avoid the rush around lunch.

Overall, if you’re in Markham craving a taste of HK street food classics – from satay beef vermicelli to Taiwanese French toast – and prefer a relaxed, canteen-style dining setting, Joy Noodle Cafe delivers on these basics with decent flavors and satisfying portions.

Great portions, food is decent, price is good and lot of tables. The service could be better, I have to chase after my drinks few times. What I like: The taste is decent and the portions are great for the cost. You get soup and drink for set meals. What I don't like: we order 6 meals but they keep missing count 1 soup and drink.

Found pretty good French Toast hereThe Hainan chicken rice is also very good. Just the ginger onion sauce being a bit plain, but the oil rice got good aroma.

I went out for a stroll, only to be caught in an unexpected heavy snowfall. Halfway through my walk, I found myself stuck in a dilemma—too far to turn back, yet hesitant to press on. So, I gave myself a goal to keep going: why not check out the nearby Bing Sutt? When I got there, it was closed—clearly taking a well-funded break for Lunar New Year celebrations. With no other choice, I turned to the restaurant next door and decided to give it a try. I ordered a sizzling steak, preserved egg and pork congee with youtiao, and baked rice with beef. Honestly, two dishes would’ve been plenty for three people, but I went for all three. Needless to say, I overate. Meanwhile, a curious little baby at the next table kept staring at me and muttering as if trying to strike up a conversation. The situation left both me and the baby’s Cantonese-speaking Canadian dad feeling slightly awkward. As for the steak, it was decent—though it clearly wasn’t comparable to a proper steakhouse. The set meal came with fries, soup, spaghetti, and a yin-yang milk tea. When the steak arrived, the sauce was poured with such flair that the sizzling sound turned every head in the restaurant. It was so loud, I didn’t even catch what the owner said when she served it. After having breakfast earlier, this meal was definitely overkill. What started as a healthy walk turned into yet another indulgent feast of congee and rice.

I rate this 4.5 out of 5 stars based on the following. The place is simple but bright and the decor is nothing special. We ordered from the lunch menu chicken, rice, fries, steak. The amount of food is good and we had left over but we we're smaller size also. The food also came with hot or cold deink and we ordered HK milk tea and coffee and both were good. The servers were also relatively nice. We also have some leftover for a obe person meal.
